SIR David Attenborough is preparing for the busiest period of his career – at the age of 92.

It has been announced the naturalist will present five series for BBC1 in the next four years.

Last year Sir David said he would only stop broadcasting when he was no longer able to produce “commentary with any freshness”.

BBC chiefs said Perfect Planet, a science-led series narrated by Sir David showing how the forces of nature shape and support life, will be screened next year.

Its finale will show the dramatic impact of humans, the world’s newest force of nature, and how we can halt the dramatic loss of biodiversity. Frozen Planet II will air in 2021, a decade after Sir David’s original examinations of the Arctic and Antarctica. The following year, Planet Earth III will be screened.

BBC natural history boss Tom Mcdonald said yesterday of Frozen Planet and Planet Earth: “Both will continue our pledge to reveal not just the world’s greatest wonders and animal behaviour but the challenges the natural world faces.”

The projects come in addition to two announced last week.

One Planet Seven Worlds, on later this year, will examine each continent individually and tells the story of its wildlife and landscapes.

Green Planet, also due to be screened in 2021, reveals plants can be “as aggressive, competitive and dramatic as animals”.
