Ole: I can lead Reds back to very top

- BY DAVID MCDONNELL

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has warned Manchester United’s Premier League rivals that the fallen giants are on their way back to the top.

United, on a 10-game unbeaten run under caretaker boss Solskjaer, will go above Chelsea into fourth spot with a lunchtime victory at Fulham today.

The Reds have not won the title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson retired but Solskjaer says they are heading back to the summit after their spectacular fall from grace.

The Norw Norwegian, in pole position to get the job fulltime, said he has a vision of how United will look in two years – when he expects them to be challenging for every trophy. “We’ve got the resources, infrastructure and history to move towards the top – that’s the only way we should think about things here,” he said. “If we don’t dream and we don’t have that vision of where we’re going, then we’ll just falter. I’m used to this club challenging for trophies. I think we’re too far behind this year, obviously. We’ve got to catch up the other teams ahead of us, especially Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham. “Those three teams have been far ahead but we’ve beaten Tottenham so we know we’re capable of that. We just need consistency.” Solskjaer (above, with defender Phil Jones) fancies United, who were 11 points ints off fourth spot when he took over from Jose Mourinho in December, to secure a Champions League place. “I’m very confident,” he said. “The players have shown me they have the character and the quality. ‘‘They’re young and have plenty of development in them.

‘‘But we also need some experienced players to become the leaders. Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, they’re at the age to take responsibility.”
