I’M HAPPY TO BE QUIN THE MIX...
WHEN Joe Schmidt announced his original Six Nations squad there were 38 names included but Quinn Roux wasn’t one of them.
But injuries to Devin Toner, Iain Henderson and Tadhg Beirne have seen the Connacht lock brought back into the equation.
He came off the bench against England and, on Saturday, played a key role in Ireland’s redemptive win over Scotland.
“I was disappointed,” said the 28-year-old, recalling his emotions when the squad came out.
“I thought I had a really good November series. I did well, I had called the lineout really well against Italy and USA but sometimes it doesn’t go your way.
“But rugby is a funny game. One week you’re not in and the next week you’re starting against Scotland in a massive Test. I’m just glad I got the opportunity and I made the most of it.
“Calling the lineout wasn’t really new to me, it was something that I’ve done with Connacht for the last two years.
“It’s something that I’ve got a lot of confidence in at the moment and I was allowed the opportunity to do it on the biggest stage.”
Ireland didn’t lose a lineout at windy
Murrayfield and while Beirne should be fit to face Italy in a fortnight’s time, Roux is optimistic of his own chances of partnering James Ryan again. He said: “I know that my coach and team have respect for me and if I do well that I’ll keep on being selected.”
