BUFFON: ONLY SACRIFICE & ATTITUDE CAN BEAT REDS

- BY NEIL MCLEMAN

GIGI BUFFON has told Paris Saintgermain to show “a spirit of sacrifice for the team” with Edinson Cavani joining Neymar in missing the trip to Manchester United.

The Italian keeper, who has lost three Champions League finals, moved to the French capital last summer in a bid to finally win the trophy. But the 40-year-old is unhappy with the form and attitude of the French champions after the 1-0 league weekend win over Bordeaux. This followed needing extra time to beat third division Villefranche in the French Cup in midweek and a first Ligue 1 defeat at Lyon.

Buffon said: “We have to improve mentally and in our attitude, to have more of a spirit of sacrifice for the team.

“We have to get better in everything because we will play against a team (United) and in a stadium, which will oblige us to be more solid and have a different attitude.” Neymar is out with a metatarsal injury, while Cavani (left) suffered a thigh strain while scoring the winning penalty against Bordeaux. The Uruguay striker is also a doubt for the second leg on March 6.

Ex-united defender and former PSG boss Laurent Blanc said: “The injury to Neymar worries me.

“But they (the players) have to be convinced they can still beat United. For two or three years now, PSG are one of the four teams who could win the Champions League.”
