Toon keeper’s last-gasp howler gifts leveller to never-say-die Wolves

WILLY BOLY headed a dramatic injury-time leveller for Wolves as both keepers had a nightmare.

Newcastle looked to have eased their drop fears as Wolves’ No.1 Rui Patricio’s clanger gifted Isaac Hayden a 56th-minute opener.

Yet seventh-placed Wanderers, who dominated the game, stuck at it and finally found a way past Martin Dubravka late on.

Sub Adama Traore swung over a high looping cross from the right which Dubravka should have gathered at the back post.

But he agonisingly allowed the ball to drop through his hands and big Wolves defender Boly headed in to leave Newcastle on the floor.

Earlier the visitors look set to capitalise on some dodgy goalkeeping by Patricio who fumbled in Hayden’s effort at his near post. It delighted Newcastle and their controversial owner Mike Ashley who was seen beaming at Molineux.

But Ashley and Toon fans had to wait until the 72nd minute to see new £21million Paraguayan Miguel Almiron off the bench and in the end he may want to forget this debut.

Newcastle looked up for it early on and were the first to threaten. West Brom loan striker Salomon Rondon fired in a low shot which Patricio held.

The visitors got men behind the ball and made it hard for Wolves to break them down. It has been one of promoted Wolves’ challenges this term at Molineux, where the likes of Huddersfield, Crystal Palace and Watford have all won.

Wolves eventually grew into the contest and it took a vital last-ditch challenge from Christian Atsu to deny Raul Jimenez a clear sight of goal from Jonny’s pass.

Jimenez had another sight of goal in the 19th minute but he lashed over a cross from Matt Doherty.

Wolves created more chances as Ruben Neves shot over from Jimenez’s cutback in the 26th minute.

Dubravka made a decent save to his left in the 36th minute after Ruben Neves released Jimenez who cut in from the right , beat Deandre Yedlin and hit a right-foot shot which deflected off Fabian Schar. Newcastle No.1 Dubravka was much the busier keeper as Jonny tested him with a fierce low shot before the break.

Wolves continued to create the more dangerous chances after the restart as Florian Lejeune got a vital deflection on Jimenez’s shot after exchanging passes with Doherty.

From the resulting corner Matt Ritchie did enough to put off Doherty at the back post after Diogo Jota helped on Joao Moutinho’s delivery.

Yet it was the visitors who took the lead when Patricio was embarrassingly beaten by a right-foot effort from Hayden (right) for his first goal of the season.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, a former goalkeeper himself, look perplexed on the touchline about how Newcastle had scored from such an angle.

But in the 94th minute it was opposite number Rafa Benitez who was left furious by a late goalkeeping howler, this time by Dubravka.
