Boy accused of kicking and pulling girl’s hair

- BY STEPHEN MAGUIRE

A BOY has appeared in court charged with assault after pulling a 12-year-old girl’s hair.

A court heard the boy, then 13, went to the alleged victim’s house in Letterkenny, Co Donegal, in August 2017 and they had a disagreement.

She claims he pulled her hair and then kicked her.

But at Letterkenny District Court, defence solicitor Michael Shiel said his client, now 14, denied he had kicked her.

He said there was a boyfriend and girlfriend situation going on between the youngsters and added to Judge Paul Kelly that it would have happened in their day.

The defendant, who has no previous convictions, was accompanied to court by his mother but all members of the public were told to leave.

Judge Kelly asked the boy if he had apologised to the girl.

He replied he had after he met her at a teen disco a few weeks ago.

The court heard how his family had now moved to another part of the county.

Judge Kelly then asked Garda Sgt Jim Collins for the report of the incident.

Having viewed the details, the judge said it didn’t appear like the pair were the best of friends.

He adjourned the case until April 15 and requested a victim impact statement from the girl on the matter.
