SEAN: I NEED GAMES, NOT GOALS

- BY PAUL O’HEHIR

SEAN MAGUIRE is more concerned about finishing matches than finishing chances.

The Republic of Ireland striker bagged his first goal of the season for Preston North End in the win over Norwich City a week ago.

Dogged by a succession of hamstring injuries, it was his first time hitting the net since a win over Leeds United in April.

Maguire (left) suffered his most recent injury setback in the bore draw with Northern Ireland in November but has been

back in action since January.

And while goals were proving hard to come by, Maguire has been central to the club’s seven-game unbeaten run.

Yesterday, the former Cork City star said: “The goals didn’t bother me too

much. Before the injury I was focused on scoring goals and winning games.

“But coming back from injury it was about finishing games, making sure I was topping up on match fitness and sharpness.

“But last week was still a really important goal for me - confidence wise it was big.

“I want to build on that now. I want to finish the season on a high. I feel I’m at my peak fitness wise and match sharpness wise.

“There are 13 games left to go and I’ve a marker I want to finish the season on and I’ll hope to reach that.”
