Teen knife attack ‘may be linked to gang feud’

- BY NIALL O’CONNOR

Scene in Limerick GARDAI are probing if a vicious stabbing of a teenager is associated with a murderous feud in which a man was killed last year.

The incident happened at 1am yesterday in the Gouldavoher estate in Dooradoyle, Limerick.

The 17-year-old male victim, believed to be originally from Eastern Europe, suffered multiple stab wounds in the attack.

Sources said one theory being examined by gardai is it is linked to a murderous row involving two factions.

The feud resulted in the fatal stabbing of Jamie Higgins in a nightclub in Shannon last St Patrick’s Day.

A source said: “There is ongoing tension in the Father Russell Road area of the city and gardai are examining if the stabbing was linked to this.

“The two youths are believed to have come out of a house near the scene and there may have been an earlier incident involving an attack on windows in a house.

“In the wake of Jamie Higgins’ death, shots were fired at a house retaliation and a gun was recovered – there were also a number of assaults.”

Witnesses to the latest attack are asked to contact gardai on 061 214340.
