Trump isn’t so Nobel in his prize bid
DONALD Trump begged Japan to nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize.
After announcing his emergency order for a southern border wall, he bragged for several minutes about being put forward for the coveted award.
Trump boasted in response to a question about his expectations of the second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Vietnam.
He said Shinzo Abe, the Japanese prime minister, sent him a letter saying: “I have nominated you on behalf of Japan. I am asking them to give you the Nobel Peace Prize”.
He then attacked Barack Obama after he received one 10 years ago.
Trump complained his predecessor was there “for about 15 seconds” before he was awarded the prize.
“I’ll probably never get it, but that’s OK,” Trump said. “They gave it to Obama. He didn’t even know what he got it for.”
He asserted Mr Obama was on the brink of starting a war with North Korea, a claim disputed by the former president’s aides.
It has emerged Mr Abe only made the Peace Prize nomination after receiving a request from the US government to do so.
According to Japan’s Asahi newspaper, Trump’s team asked for him to be put forward after the US leaders first summit with Kim in June last year.
A spokesman for Japan’s Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said they “would refrain from commenting on the interaction between the two leaders” while the White House stayed Schtum.
If there were a Nobel Prize for narcissism, Trump would be a shoo-in.
He’d eat himself if he was made of chocolate.
