AN Irish girl hoping to win The Voice UK has confessed she was “terrified” during her blind audition before Olly Murs turned his chair for her.

Eva Campbell, 17, impressed the English pop star with her rendition of Massive Attack’s Teardrop but Murs left it until the last second of her performance to hit his button.

The fifth-year student, from Skerries in North Dublin, is set to take to the stage tonight in the Battle stages of the competition.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Eva told of her relief when Olly’s chair turned for her.

She added: “There are people who have been professional singers for years, who will agree there’s nothing more nervewracking than that blind audition.

“It’s just terrifying. You’ve 90 seconds to secure your place in the next round and that’s very scary but so exciting.”

Eva is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Ruti Olajudbagbe, who took home the crown last year despite going into the live shows as an underdog.

When asked if she was looking for any judge in particular to turn their chair for her, she said: “When I

got there, I was just like, ‘Please, I just want one turn’. Ruti just got one turn. She wasn’t your typical four-chair turn with a killer blind audition, when everyone knew she was going to win. “Instead, she got one turn then she gradually improved and showed so much growth.”

Eva has been performing since she was 10 and counts Florence And The Machine as well as the late Cranberries’ frontwoman Dolores O’riordan among her influences.

She explained she decided to enter the Voice UK instead of the X Factor because she didn’t think she would fit in on Simon

Cowell’s competition.

Eva added: “I really wanted to stand out and I thought that maybe on a show like the X Factor I might get lost because I’m not your typical pop star. “But I also want to show versatility.

“I still want to show I can still be commercial while being unique so I think this is the perfect show for me.”

COMEDIAN Fred Cooke has told how he’s shaping up after losing a stone on Dancing With The Stars.

The funnyman, 38, revealed his girlfriend Julie Jay is impressed with his new leaner body.

He told the Irish Mirror: “Mentally I’m changing and physically I’m changing, I’ve lost a stone.

“Julie loves the fact I’ve lost the weight, every morning she wakes up, she’s like, ‘Where are you, you’ve disappeared’.

“She’s so supportive. She was at the show last week with her friend during the dance-off.”

viewers in recent weeks dancing to LMFAO’S Sexy And I Know It and admits he saw the irony in the lyrics.

He said: “Sexiness is a state of mind but obviously I was being ironic dancing to that song but it’s great to have a laugh at yourself.

“When you see me doing something like Sexy And I Know It in a big glitter outfit it’s a great laugh.

“And because I’m a comedian I feel very fortunate, I’m getting loads of material being on the show.” Despite shedding pounds,

I might as well have a bit of belief in myself that I can do it
