BEES URGED TO KEEP EYES ON THE ROAD

- BY ROBERT DUNFORD

ROMAINE SAWYERS knows Brentford must repeat their home form on the road to stand any chance of promotion.

Victory over QPR earned them a fifth-straight victory at Griffin Park and left them just eight points off the play-offs.

But the Bees have won only one away all season – a 4-2 win at Rotherham in January – and Sawyers (above) says things have to change with trips to Middlesbrough and Sheffield United looming.

The midfielder said “We’re confident, we know on our day we can beat anyone, we know we can dominate but we’ve got to have the same belief we do at home.

“Maybe we’ve been a bit naive in the past so we’ve got to analyse it a bit differently. We just needed the first 15 minutes to get going today, but they were never going to out-football us.

“It’s great to watch us, especially when the front three are on it. It’s ridiculous, especially at home – we show a lot of glimpses about how good we are going forward.”

After a scrappy first-half, Brentford sparked into life when Neal Maupay slotted home from the spot. The Frenchman turned provider for Said Benrahma, before Sergi Canos finished the game off in stoppage-time.

QPR looked a shadow of the side that stunned Leeds at Loftus Road last week, failing to trouble Bees keeper Daniel Bentley.

The Hoops have lost eight of their last nine, and boss Steve Mclaren said: “We’re trying to shore things up, so we need to get back on there this week.”
