Struggle to get by goes on for many

-

IT’S a sad day when almost seven out of 10 people say they cannot pay essential bills out of their wages.

These are hardworking people who pay their taxes and yet find it hard it makes ends meet every month.

Ireland is supposed to out of recession and nearing full employment. But even with all the jobs out there, workers are finding it tough.

Regular income is not covering bills like electricity, broadband, car insurance for the vast majority.

Many have to dip into their savings to the keep the household afloat with others putting everything on the long finger by using credit cards.

And more are selling precious belongings just to get by. No wonder then that more than one in three are in debt.

Some even have to rely on family and friends for help and in the worse case scenarios, workers are pawning precious belongings.

And money worries are having a impact on both mental and physical health.

Switcher.ie, which carried out the survey, pointed out that scraping together the cash to pay immediate bills leaves no room for future savings.

Time to keep a closer eye on spending and shop around for better deals. Don’t be afraid to switch as the savings could add up and help stop you from sinking.
