Someone out there knows where Tina is

- NIALL O’CONNOR

GARDAI have vowed to continue the search for Tina Satchwell who vanished two years ago today.

The 47-year-old was reported missing by her husband Richard at a Cork Garda station four days after she disappeared from their home in Youghal.

He told officers she fled with two suitcases but left her mobile phone.

Richard also informed gardai his wife of 25 years took more than €26,000 with her. She had taken the money, the proceeds of the sale of their house, from a cash box.

A source said: “This is still a live, active, Garda investigation – they believe someone out there knows where Tina is and they will continue to investigate it.” A Garda statement said: “It has been two years since Tina was last seen. This investigation has seen a lot of media attention though various appeals and searches carried out.

“To date this investigation has resulted in over 330 separate lines of enquiry being conducted including liaison with colleagues internationally and engagement with Interpol.

“An Garda Siochana, assisted by the Defence Forces, have previously conducted searches in the Youghal area and at Mitchel’s Wood, Bridgetown, Castlemartyr in connection with this investigation.

“Over 100 hours of CCTV has been viewed and in excess of 100 statements have been taken to date.

“Gardai in Midleton district have been assisted by specialist Garda units including the Garda air support unit, Garda water unit and Garda dog unit.” During the last two years Tina’s husband has consistenly denied he had anything to do with the Richard Satchwell disappearance.

In a television interview Richard said: “I have never once in nearly 30 years of being together laid a finger on her. The most I’ve ever done to her is have a tight cuddle, loving the bones off her. Never, I would never lay a finger on her.”

The 46-year-old, originally from the UK, was working as a truck driver in a North Cork tyre company. He drove routes around the area and further afield but when Tina disappeared he has been unable to work.

He claimed to have discovered two suitcases in a Tesco car park but forensic examinations determined they did not belong to his wife.

Detectives are appealing for anybody with information to contact Midleton Garda station on 021 462 1550 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
