Trump will always find new ways to be mean & nasty

-

As the rest of the world struggled to come to terms with a true outrage over the New Zealand massacre, Donald Trump was spitting his own venom.

In the wake of the terror attack which left 50 Muslims at two mosques dead, the President sent out his template tweet whenever a mass shooting occurs offering his “warmest sympathy and best wishes”.

Its inadequacy left many shocked with critics accusing him of failing to grasp the enormity of the bloodshed.

But as those left injured were still being attended to, Trump did the unthinkable.

As details emerged the attack was carried out by white supremacist, Brenton Tarrant, the US leader began posting a stunning display of personal grievances.

Over the next 48 hours, he started his social media marathon beginning with his thoughts on Jexodous – the alleged shift of Jewish voters to his Republican party.

Trump then took to the issue of the Russian investigation into his election campaign team booming: “THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN TO A PRESIDENT AGAIN.”

It showed just where his heart and soul genuinely lay on what was a truly devastating day. Trump then demanded the return of a supportive Fox News host who was missing from her usual spot on Saturday after verbally attacking an American Muslim lawmaker.

He escalated his beyond-the-grave feud with late Senator John Mccain, attacked comedy show Saturday Night Live for poking fun at him, again lampooned the Russian probe before then demanding a now-closed car plant in Ohio be reopened or sold.

This weekend’s diatribe left even his supporters stunned given he said he didn’t think white supremacy was a growing global problem after the Christchurch attack.

It was even more damning considering Tarrant’s rambling, incoherent manifesto had by now emerged in which he said he was a supporter of Trump whom he described as a “symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose”.

He did nothing to follow through on the call by New Zealand’s prime minister Jacinda Ardern to show love and sympathy to all Muslims.

Instead, his refusal to be pushed into a more powerful condemnation of white supremacists, after a history of racially charged and anti-muslim rhetoric put the administration on the defensive.

When faced with evidence like Trump’s demand to ban all Muslim immigration during the 2016 campaign and a remark that “Islam hates us,” his acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said: “I don’t think anybody can say the President is anti-muslim.”

He added: “Every time something bad happens ... folks who don’t like Donald Trump, blame it on Donald Trump.”

Of course, none of us can hold Trump personally responsible for what happened in Christchurch. The attack happened because a demoniac lunatic filled with hate committed a monstrous act of evil.

But what I do hold Trump accountable for is his unforgivable failure to properly condemn the attack, or any, kind of white supremacists and make it clear that he keeps them in nothing but absolute disdain.

His silence yet again damns him. They are anything but the “very fine people” he claims them to be.

His failure to properly condemn the massacre is unforgivable
