Terrorists will never succeed

-

THE discovery of a bomb at a sorting office just underlines there are people prepared to kill for their twisted aims.

Gardai believe the device found in Limerick yesterday is similar to those sent recently to the UK.

It now appears it was returned to Ireland having failed to reach its destination putting dozens of innocent workers at risk.

The bombers’ aim is to incite hatred and cause divisions here and in Britain and exploit the souring of relations caused by Brexit.

Terror groups such as the New IRA are determined to undermine the Good Friday Agreement. But as the late Martin Mcguinness rightly said they are traitors to the people of Ireland.

It is somewhat ironic that it is the actions of the British Government, which is a signatory to the historic 1998 peace accord, pose a direct threat to peace on this island.

Should the UK crash out of the EU without a deal, which is now a distinct possibility, it will almost certainly result in a hard border.

Putting aside the catastrophic economic implications, such a scenario will lead to resentment, mistrust and even result in attacks on border posts.

It is an imperative the Good Friday Agreement holds firm and for the authorities on both sides of the border to bring those behind this parcel bomb campaign to justice.
