MAKE THE MOST OF IT.. THIS WILL PROBABLY BE THE LAST TIME YOU PLAY IN THE PREMIER

- BY MIKE WHALLEY

CHRIS LOWE has told Huddersfield’s players to make the most of the next month, because some of them will never play in the Premier League again.

The German left-back, who turns 30 on Tuesday, has described the past four months as the hardest of his career, with the Terriers plummeting out of the top flight.

Town, who have picked up just four points from the last 60 available, were relegated with six games to spare, before the end of March. They go to Tottenham today still looking to avoid the record for the lowest goal tally in the 131-year history of the top flight.

Huddersfield have scored 19 league goals this season, still one short of the paltry 20 that Derby managed in 2007-08.

Lowe (with Christopher Schindler and Terence Kongolo, above) admits it has been tough losing week after week over the past few months.

“The last four months have been really hard. Mentally, they have probably been the hardest in my football career. We are in the situation where we basically lose every game,” he said.

“You will take it home, for sure. You cannot just drive away and it is gone. You always think about what the reason is or why we are where we are.

“It will be the same for the next five games. But we have to try our best and get some momentum for next season. For some of us, it will be the last five Premier League games in our lives, so we have to try and enjoy it a bit.”

Manager Jan Siewert (below), who replaced David Wagner in January, refused even to discuss the prospect of relegation publicly until it was confirmed by defeat at Crystal Palace a fortnight ago.

Lowe, though, admitted the players have found it impossible to stay positive. “Basically, we’ve sat in the dressing room every week for these last four months and the opponent has just knocked us out,” he added.

“It is hard. We have been trying to deal with it, as well as we can. People should not think we do not care about what is happening. We do care.

“We hurt after every match. We try to prepare as well as we can in the week. Then, we go out on the pitch with the feeling we can get a good result.

“But then we get punished. That has happened for four months. It does not make it easier to go out again, but this is what we have to do.”
