Suicide trainer feared wife having affair with jockey

The officer, former Chief Superinten­dent Ivan Farr, was involved in counter terrorism among other operations and is set to take on the job in the coming months.

The Irish Mirror has learned he will lead the Strategic Transforma­tion Office in the Phoenix Park Headquarte­rs.

It is understood he will be appointed on a one-year contract and will report to the Commission­er’s office.

A source said: “The officer underwent a full interview scenario in the recruitmen­t phase – he was selected because of his background in difficult policing Richard & Kayley TOP racehorse trainer killed himself after suspecting his wife of having an affair with a jockey, an inquest heard yesterday.

Richard Woollacott, who trained winners Lalor and Beer Goggles, researched suicide sites before hanging himself at his yard.

Marie said Richard, 40, had seen “sexualised messages” but Kayley said “whatever had taken place... was over”. He then discovered further texts and was “humilia relationsh­ip” with wife ated”. Trainer Kayley told the Exeter inquest things “came to a head” in the last six weeks of Richard’s life.

He was found dead in a barn at South Molton, Devon, in January last year.

At Aintree racecourse just months after his death, Kayley said: “Guilt is something that has affected us all... thinking that we shoulda, woulda, coulda.”

Yesterday assistant coroner Alison Longhorn recorded a suicide conclusion.

She said: “Richard had previously suffered depression and was recently estranged from his wife. Very sadly he intended to end his own life.”
