Scammers target Notre Dame blaze fund donors
CRIMINALS are scamming people trying to donate to the fund to rebuild Notre Dame.
Details emerged as French President Emmanuel Macron paid an emotional tribute to the

firefighters who fought the blaze which destroyed the cathedral’s spire in Paris on Monday.
A police official said yesterday that an electrical short-circuit was the most likely cause.
The Heritage Foundation, which is organising the fund, said A HISTORIC Irish cathedral could go up in flames during restoration work like Notre Dame, it has been claimed.
Top conservation architect John Beauchamp, who is overseeing the revamp of St Patrick’s in Dublin, told of his fears after the Paris fire this week.
He believes the blaze was most likely caused by “human error” but it should not prevent work at the Irish landmark going ahead.
A safety review of the €8.5million project, which is due to start later this year, has been ordered.
Mr Beauchamp said: “We have in place sophisticated fire detection measures, fire protection measures and it is outraged by gangs trying to cash in.
A spokesman said: “Many scams have been reported to us in France and abroad. We do not raise funds by email, mail or phone.”

Mr Beauchamp told RTE’S Morning Ireland: “Our project this summer and going forward for nearly two years will be to put a temporary roof over the building and replace the slates and make sure the building is watertight.
