SECURITY FOR TRUMP VISIT IN FULL SWING US Defence Forces patrol near resort
PREPARATIONS for the massive security operation needed for Donald Trump’s trip are in full swing.
The US President touches down in less than a fortnight and yesterday members of the Defence Forces arrived at his hotel and golf resort in West Clare where he and the First Lady are to stay.
Uniformed and plain-clothes gardai have been monitoring traffic entering Shannon Airport where Air Force One will land, while officers are carrying out similar duties at his Doonbeg resort.
Companies in the vicinity of the airport have been asked to submit details of employees and other people expected to visit their premises while the world’s most powerful man visits the west. The White House only confirmed on Tuesday night that the President will arrive in Ireland on June 5, but gardai were deployed at Shannon Airport and Trump International Golf Links and Hotel last week in anticipation of the In Co Clare yesterday announcement of the three-day trip. Gardai are patrolling the 400-acre property in both marked and unmarked vehicles while officers are also monitoring traffic movements on to the site and around the hotel. Sources also confirmed towers constructed of scaffolding will be erected around the golf course to provide US Secret Service personnel and gardai an elevated view.
Motorway maintenance crews have been requested to count and mark every manhole cover and drain along the N19 and M18 along which the presidential cavalcade will travel.
Once this is completed, it’s believed members of the Army Engineers Corps will move in and weld each of the metal covers in place. Sources have also said gardai will be posted on the side of the motorway at 500m intervals, officers will take up positions on all flyovers and interchanges along his route on
