Adelaide meteor A METEOR the size of a marble has lit up the skies over Australia.

Residents of Adelaide and Melbourne were treated to the celestial spectacle as it burned up on entering the atmosphere.

Dr Steve Chesley, from NASA told ABC Radio Adelaide,: “When these things hit the atmosphere going so fast, the pressure from these hypersonic entries basically causes them to shatter and fragment.”

One Twitter user who witnessed the meteor said: “Just saw what must have been a meteor on the SW horizon from northern Victoria.

“Lit up half the sky and the flash would have been the size of the moon.”

WESTLIFE said they feel “overwhelmed” ahead of returning to the Croke Park stage.

The boyband favourites kicked off their comeback tour with an “emotional” show in Belfast on Wednesday night.

Ahead of their first show at GAA headquarters since 2012, they said: “I think we’re all going to feel overwhelmed to be back after such a long time but also incredibly excited.”

Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, Nicky Byrne and Kian Egan said they are especially excited to perform some new material for their fans.

They told RTE: “We can’t wait to perform Hello My Love on stage, it will be the first time.

“Also it will be great to bring back the classics Flying Without Wings, Swear It Again and World Of Your Own.”

Since scoring their first hit in 1998, the boys said they feel closer than ever. They added: “The group feels more like a family than ever before.

“Before it felt very much like just the four of us, but now we’re all older and we have kids, Westlife is becoming a part of their lives too.

“Having everyone over for barbecues and birthdays and other special events has cemented what a big extended family we in fact now are.”

The band also chatted candidly about their new album Spectrum which will be released on September 6.

They said it is a “mix of old and new” and they were lucky to have worked with “world-class” songwriters and producers such as Ed Sheeran and Steve Mac.

The group are playing another four nights in Belfast before heading to England for their arena dates and will finish the tour in Dublin on July 5 and 6.

Straight after hopping off stage, the boys said: “We genuinely missed each other and missed the buzz of performing on stage together. It is incredible to be back.

“The Belfast crowd were unbelievable. We’re ecstatic and we loved every minute of it. It was emotional at times too.”

The tour, for which they picked Hello My Love as the opening number, has sold nearly 700,000 tickets.

The foursome are also hitting the big screen on July 6 where they will broadcast the Croke Park gig to cinemas across the UK and Ireland.

They added: “We feel that it will be the best show we’ve ever done.

“There will be a mix of new music and of course all the hits along with some amazing visuals.

“The show will lend itself so well to cinema and will allow people watching to feel like they are actually a part of it.”
