Josh: I’ll never do a Benn BARCLAY’S BANKER No Viva Las Vegas for Davies

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

BOXING: FEATHERWEIGHT STAR’S PLEDGE JOSH WARRINGTON is determined to retire with no regrets, claiming he would never want to return like Nigel Benn.

The legendary ‘Dark Destroyer’ is coming back for one final fight next month after 23 years out of the ring with the former world champion saying he needs closure.

But Warrington intends to achieve all he can at his peak. The unbeaten IBF featherweight king faces Frenchman Sofiane Takoucht on Saturday and said: “It’s about doing stuff so you can rest easy when you’re done. I don’t want to be doing a Nigel Benn at 55 to get closure.

“When I retire, I want to know I did everything I could in my prime. I want to go to my grave knowing I boxed the best and took the biggest fights.”

Warrington (right), 28, had hoped his next fight would be a unification clash in the US and facing the unheralded Takoucht back at Leeds’ First Direct Arena feels like an anti-climax.

But the Leeds fighter is still motivated because promoter Frank Warren is working on delivering WBC champ Gary Russell Jr at Elland Road.

JOHN BARCLAY is out to impress Gregor Townsend this morning and play his way into Scotland’s do-or-die Japan clash.

The Edinburgh flanker (left) was dropped after a shocker in their opening defeat against Ireland.

But while Townsend holds back his big names for Sunday, Barclay has a chance to redeem himself against Russia. He said: “I have been frustrated since the Ireland game.

“There needs to be a big performance and I must prove I deserve to be involved against Japan.” THE Springboks confirmed their place in the World Cup quarter-finals with an emphatic victory over 14-man Canada.

Canada’s Josh Larsen was red-carded before half-time for charging into a ruck. His team scored first in the second half through Matt Heaton, but Rassie Erasmus’ side then ran in three more tries.

GARETH Davies cancelled a boozy trip to Las Vegas to become a World Cup star.

And now the Wales scrum-half plans to continue his stunning start to the tournament against Fiji.

Davies spent all summer getting in shape for Japan even before Wales’ gruelling fitness camps in Switzerland and Turkey.

The hard work paid off for the 29-year-old who produced a try-scoring, man-of-the-match display in the win over Australia.

“I had a quiet summer and didn’t do what I normally do. There were no trips to Vegas or anything like that,” he said.

“We’re in a good place at the moment and two from two. We showed some good attacking rugby in that first game against Georgia and I thought our defence was outstanding against Australia.”

Davies is Wales’ No.1 scrum-half and has six tries in seven World Cup starts after a fine 2015 tournament.

Davies said: “That’s all right, isn’t it? I’ll have to try to get two more this week.

“I would like to think my form away from the World Cup is pretty good, but it is a good stage to shine on and it’s going well.”
