X Factor’s Nicole offers positive advice

NICOLE Scherzinger says she fears for children growing up today after lacking self-confidence herself as a youngster.

The X Factor: The Band judge, who has admitted to having eating disorder bulimia earlier in her career as a member of the Pussycat Dolls, said: “I think it can be hard for young kids.

“I know I had a hard time feeling I fitted into my own skin. I was just hard on myself. I had a lot of struggles with self esteem and a lot of insecurities.”

In tonight’s show,

Nicole, 41, who is a judge alongside

Simon Cowell, gets very emotional over one act, Kellie-marie, who sings about being alone. Nicole tells her: “You are not alone anymore.”

Asked for her best advice to those entering the music industry, Nicole said:

“I would say, ‘You are perfect just the way you are. God made you and you are precious. You have purpose and you are going to go through a lot of pain and struggles in life but there is purpose in that pain and there is a bigger plan’.

“That’s the same advice I’d give anyone. When you go through struggles and challenges it’s going to prepare you. Even though you’re feeling you’re not fitting in, it’s because you’re not meant to fit in, you’re meant to stand out.”

Nicole previously told how she only realised she needed to face up to her illness when she lost her voice and blacked out backstage.

She said at the time: “I remember my manager finding me passed out on the floor in Malta or in the south of France.”

Nicole added yesterday: “I like to think I’ve been given a platform and a voice to impact positive change in this pretty messed-up world, just as much as providing light entertainment.”

The star, who this week partied until 4.30am with rumoured love interest Thom Evans, also backed Celebrity X Factor winner Megan Mckenna to do “fantastic things”.

She said: “It’s a really exciting time for her. She is a fantastic songwriter.

“She wears her heart on her sleeve, her lyrics show that and I think we can all relate to her lyrics at one time or another.

“Megan could go on to fantastic things. But it doesn’t come easy, you have to keep working at your craft but I think she’s got something real special about her.”

Episode one of X Factor: The Band opened on Monday with just over two million viewers, less than Under 30s Question Time, which scored 2.5 million.

Simon rushed it into production after it was announced Little Mix will front a similar show, The Search, for the BBC next year. Nicole reunited the Pussycat Dolls for a raunchy X Factor performance last week. Ofcom was inundated with more than 400 complaints.
