NEW HORROR? NO WAY, JOSE

- FROM JOHN CROSS

JOSE MOURINHO has forbidden his Spurs players from watching their Bayern Munich horror show.

The German giants thrashed Tottenham

7-2 in London in October, a result that was arguably a big factor in Mauricio Pochettino’s downfall.

But Mourinho, who has left Harry Kane and Dele Alli in London, does not want his players to be battlescarred before tackling the Germans in the Allianz Arena.

Spurs boss Mourinho said: “I forbid any image about it. I’ve watched it a couple of times with my staff and the analysts but not one single image for the boys, not at all.”

Mourinho (in his press conference, above) believes alreadyqualified Spurs can go a long way if they can avoid a tough game in the last 16.

He said: “Clubs like Barcelona will be waiting for us so it’s going to be difficult but it’s going to be difficult for them too.”

Mourinho, preparing to blood some youngsters at Bayern, snapped at a question about his record of developing young players before recalling a comical moment against Munich in the past.

When manager of Chelsea in 2005, Mourinho got around a stadium ban for a quarter-final clash against the Germans by hiding in a laundry basket at Stamford Bridge. Former assistant Rui Faria wore a hat to hide an earpiece so he could communicate with him.

“When I arrived it was 1-0 to Chelsea. We were winning already,” smiled Mourinho, who responded to the question on youth development with ill-disguised sarcasm.

“Scott Mctominay, only the best player at Manchester United, Rafael Varane is one of the best in the world. Fair criticism, yeah.”

Mourinho admitted he had been learning German before taking the Spurs job three weeks ago.

“The motivation was to learn,” he said. “I don’t imagine myself in Bayern. I’m so happy with my job I don’t look to the next step.”
