A WOMAN was charged yesterday with the murder of her brother at his home.

Helen Jones, 52, appeared before Cork District Court accused of killing 55-year-old Paul Jones in the city on September 7.

She had previously been charged with aggravated burglary at the property on Bandon Road on the same date.

Keith O’hara, 41, was also charged at yesterday’s hearing with murdering Mr Jones.

He had previously been charged with trespass with intent to commit an assault.

Mr Jones’ body was found in the living room of his home in the Lough area of the city.

Relatives had gone to the rental property after his teenage son was unable to contact him by phone.

Det Garda Myles Moran gave evidence of the arrest charge and caution of Jones.

The defendant, from Cahergal Avenue, Mayfield, Cork, made no reply to the murder charge when it was put to her after caution.

Det Garda Maurice O’connor added O’hara, formerly of the same as address as his co-accused, made no reply when the same charge was put to him after caution.

The State previously alleged Jones committed burglary at her brother’s home on September 4 and she had a knife with her at the time.

O’hara was charged with entering the victim’s home as a trespasser with intent to commit assault causing harm.

Yesterday Sgt John Kelleher indicated books of evidence were being prepared for both accused who will be sent forward for trial at the Central Criminal Court.

Gardai applied to have both accused remanded in custody to appear at Cork District Court on Monday.

Judge Olann Kelleher granted the application and the accused were further remanded in custody until their appearance by video link.

Mr Jones had lived in Bandon Road for several years.

He previously resided at Cahergal Avenue in Mayfield, Cork.
