A TEENAGER who repeatedly raped his half-brother and tried to rape his half-sister when they were children was jailed for four-and-a-half years yesterday.

Bobby Watson was with his parents William and Sumitra, both 35, and his brother Billy, seven, when the tragedy happened.

He slipped and fell into the landing area of a flume ride at Blue Tree Water Park in Phuket, Thailand and went under the surface.

Lifeguards pulled the unconsciou­s youngster out of the water as his parents looked on but he later died in hospital.

Local police chief Cpt Yanpatr Malai said: “They could not believe their son was gone. There were many tourists gathered around the eight at the time. The abuse occurred when the younger siblings were visiting the defendant at their mother’s home.

The matter came to light after the boy victim told a relative about the abuse.

Mr Justice Michael White noted while the defendant, who is now aged 19, was a child at the time, he was being sentenced as an adult.

Parents William and Sumitra the sustained period of time over which it occurred. He sentenced the defendant to seven years’ imprisonme­nt, but suspended the final two-and-a-half years on strict conditions.

A victim impact statement written by the boy’s father on his behalf outlined the anguish suffered by family members once the abuse was disclosed.

He wrote his son, who is now 16, used to get extremely angry after coming home were “crying uncontroll­ably” after the tragedy at the park, which opened last year.

In a statement the park said staff were “deeply distressed” and described the incident as a “tragic accident”. It said: “He stumbled and fell under the water after which he was spotted by one of the lifeguards on duty who came to his immediate assistance.

“His parents are understand­ably devastated and we continue to offer our support in any way possible. We are all deeply upset by this extremely sad incident.”

The Foreign Office said its officials were ready to provide support to UK citizens when needed. from his older brother’s house and would refuse to have a bath, saying: “I’m not dirty.” The dad added it was difficult to think of the “torment he was suffering”.

The girl, now aged 13, wrote her own victim impact statement and said: “Sometimes I feel I will never be happy again.”

She added she is “petrified” of her half-brother coming back to hurt her and said: “It makes me sick. I know my daddy will always keep me safe.”

CORNISH comedian Jethro is retiring after more than 50 years performing.

The 72-year-old, real name Geoffrey Rowe, said his current dates will be his last and thanked fans.

He said: “I think it’s time to hang up my mic.

“It’s been a hard decision but my memory has made it easier. A big thank you to everyone that has come to see me over 50 years.”

He has sold four million DVDS and made nine appearance­s on TV shows hosted by Des O’connor.

He also appeared on Jim Davidson’s Generation Game five times – twice giving a demo of how to make a Cornish pasty.

The news he will quit comes a year after fears for his health when he left a stage early, saying: “I cannot do this anymore.”
