TALLAGHT MAY HOST EURO FOUR

-

LEAGUE OF IRELAND likely tournament venue following high level talks with FAI chiefs.

But while the Dublin 4 ground has not been ruled out, Mirror Sport has learned that Tallaght (above) is now more likely.

It is envisaged that the competition – which cannot be played until

July 20 at the earliest under Government directives – will be staged over two weekends.

Meanwhile, the FAI will present clubs with their financial plan to play behind-closed-doors today. Meetings based around that were due to take place yesterday but were called off due to personal reasons.

But League of Ireland players did hold a near two-hour conference call with FAI medical officer Dr Alan Byrne, with queries over Covid-19 testing to the fore.

A comprehensive document detailing protocols for a return to training is expected to be published today.

Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers, Bohemians and Derry City have the green light to resume training on June 8, with the rest of the league returning on June 29.

Meanwhile, Glenavon’s Jonny Tuffey says it would be “absolute madness” to “put people’s lives at risk” with a hasty return to Irish League action.

A debate is raging on whether NIFL should call time on the league season with seven games to play.

Former Northern Ireland keeper Tuffey believes patience is key and warned: “You can’t put lives at risk.

“The powers that be have to be sensible, take medical and government advice.”
