NORMAL People viewers around the globe are turning on their subtitles to understand the Irish accents on the hit show.

The steamy series, an adaptation of a Sally Rooney novel, has received rave reviews but some fans have trouble understanding what the characters are saying.

Taking to Twitter to discuss how they watch the show, one viewer said: “I am finally starting Normal People because I found subtitles.”

Another added: “There are only six types of people in the world and I’m the kind that watches Normal People with the English subtitles on.”

The passionate love story between Marianne Sheridan, played by Daisy Edgar-jones, and Connell Waldron, portrayed by Kildare actor Paul Mescal, is set in Sligo and Dublin.

Other fans of the show joked they were forced to turn on subtitles after getting distracted by the sex scenes.

One viewer commented on the young actors being too alluring.

They said: “I have to put on subtitles for Normal People, not because of the accents but because they’re too hot I forget to listen to the words.”

One unhappy viewer claimed the series was a teen version of 50 Shades Of Grey.

Another wrote: “Save yourself some time & half a day & watch Sex and the City instead!”

Fans have also been joking about Kourtney Kardashian bingeing on the hit series.

The mum of three posted a picture of herself watching Normal People at home with the caption “The show” complete with a red emoji love heart.

In response, one fan joked: “Wonder if she needed subtitles for the Irish accents?”
