Slow Down Day records 910 speeders

Former Corrie star tells of excitement at playing high-class madam in Netflix show

MORE than 900 motorists have been caught breaking the speed limit on National Slow Down Day, with one driving at 200kmh.

Gardai and Gosafe checked the speed of 104,821 vehicles with 910 detected travelling in excess of the limit.

One driver was detected doing 202kmh on the M50 yesterday morning.

A Garda spokesman said officers and the Road Safety Authority continue to remind motorists to abide by the limits.

He added the speed levels have increased during the pandemic, despite less traffic being on the roads due to lockdown.

ANGELA Griffin hopes Irish Corrie fans won’t be turned off her new risque role as a high-class madam in Netflix’s new crime drama.

Most well known for playing hairdresser Fiona Middleton in the soap followed by stints in Holby City, Cutting It and Down To Earth, all her parts have been “nice” ones.

But thanks to new glitzy series White Lines, all that is about to change.

Angela told the Irish Mirror: “I understand that everyone in Ireland is going to know me from Corrie, I get that.

“I have always had great times in Dublin and the Irish public have been great supporters of the soap.

“But I have to say I have been waiting for a part like this to come up for a long time. I am really pleased they took a chance on me for it because I am known for playing a certain kind of nice role.

“If I pull this off everyone believes it will open the door for some more different characters.

“It is very easy to get pigeon-holed in this business. Don’t get me wrong, I have consistently worked since I was 16 so I am not going to bad mouth or moan about these jobs.

“But I am excited by the fact people are going to see me in a different light and that might change the landscape for me going forward.”

Heist/la Casa de Papel creator Alex Pina was shot in the Balearic Islands, including Majorca and Ibiza.

It stars Laura Haddock – who was in the movies Transformers and Guardians Of The Galaxy – as a young woman who is trying to solve the mystery of what happened to her brother, whose body was found years after he disappeared.

The controversial role that has Angela and TV critics alike so excited is as Anna Connor, a businesswoman who specialises in running high-end sex parties.

And the actress revealed her first scenes on set were filming a two-day orgy at a multi-million-euro villa.

Angela said: “There is no denying it was the most bizarre days on set I have ever had.

“They were my first and luckily I really knew the scenes but we just went

straight into it. There were these very up-for-it extras, who were featuring in these scenes for the three days and believe me we all got very close after those really intimate scenes.

“It was just bizarre, I have never been to anything remotely like that, not even to a show in Amsterdam.

“So initially the biggest challenge for me was to act like this was my normal office day job. Eventually I got there but it was really hard to start off with.

“On the first day everyone was a bit coy about taking their clothes off but by day two people weren’t even taking their robes, it was pointless and you eventually adjust.

“But it will go down as the most bizarre filming I have ever done – ever.”

The series features blue skies, white sandy beaches, big club scenes and of course a gripping, whodunnit story line.

What sets this series apart from the others is the complexity of each character which makes it difficult to figure out the murderer until the final episode.
