- BY SIOBHAN O’CONNOR

A BRAVE trainee doctor working on the frontline is giving hope to the nation by dancing in the Riverdance video Together Apart.

Dubliner Shona Cobbe is on her obstetrics and gynaecology rotation at the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital.

She took time out to co-star in the video with other professional dancers and now the stunning film has gone viral.

Shona, 32, told the Irish Mirror: “I danced in Riverdance for four years in between my two degrees.

“Riverdance dancers aren’t working right now so they thought why not do a video to support the frontline workers?”

The talented beauty toured in China, America, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Her most remarkable memories include dancing at the pyramids of

Giza, on The Late Late Show, performing for Queen Elizabeth during her historic visit to Ireland as well as in front of First Lady Michelle Obama.

But medicine was always at the back of Shona’s mind and when her mum passed away in 2010, it was the catalyst for her to return home and pursue her career.

She began studying at the University of Limerick in 2013 and took to the stage with Riverdance as a medical student for their 20th anniversary performance at the

UL Arena before finally hanging up her shoes for scrubs.

Shona said: “I started dancing again in the kitchen recently, doing a few bits. It was really nice to do something that was different to coronavirus.

”My mum Roslyn wanted me to go away with Riverdance as she was bringing me to Irish dancing since I was five.

“I think of her all the time. She’s always sending me little signs so I know she’s so proud.”

And talking of her job at the Coombe, the mum of one added: “It’s business as usual, women are having babies. They’re a bit more anxious which is to be expected.

“We’re doing everything we can to keep Covid out.

“You’re always afraid you’re going to be the one so I’ve been really strict because I would be afraid to pass anything on.”
