Aussie Inglis set to be Warr hero

-

GREG INGLIS is an incredible signing for Warrington Wolves and the sport – if they get the best version of him.

When I first heard this week about him coming out of retirement to play in Betfred Super League in 2021 I couldn’t believe it.

If you think of the top players coming over here in the summer era, there’s Andrew Johns, albeit on a shortterm deal, at Warrington in

2005.

I got to play with Danny Buderus at Leeds, who was an Australia and New South Wales captain.

Greg Inglis (top) at his peak is the best athlete I’ve seen in the game. But it can be a double-edged sword with him.

I’ve seen him tear teams apart in internationals and State of Origin – seen by many as the highest level of the sport. Inglis made it look like he was a 13-year-old in an under-nines match.

But there were other times when he seemed distracted by off-field matters.

I think we’re going to see the superstar version that will light up Super League.

One thing going for him at Warrington is he will have a great team manager in Kylie Leuluai (left), another ex-team-mate of mine.

Kylie will provide the safe, familiar environment that will allow Greg to produce his best form.

Size, strength, athleticism, aggression and ability to read the game – he ticks so many boxes.

He has a good chance of being named one of Australia’s Immortals.

When he is focused, he can be unplayable – so I’m looking forward to seeing how he does at Warrington.
