MING’S15 CAUGHT SHORT

MEP bares legs on EU conference call Just back from a run ... hope you like my legs

- BY WILLIAM DUNNE news@irishmirror.ie

MEP Luke “Ming” Flanagan dared to bare yesterday on a conference call with other European Parliament members.

The outspoken politician from Co Roscommon wore a black shirt and shorts, exposing his legs during the video chat.

The 48-year-old MEP sat on his bed as he took part in the Agriculture Committee meeting to discuss the EU’S long-term sector budget.

He could also be seen rubbing his upper leg as he said: “We read in some European newspapers how this money will be broken down state by state.

“Where can MEPS get definitive information on this rather than reading it second-hand from European journalism?”

The wardrobe malfunction did not go unnoticed as chair of the

Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development Norbert Lins hid a smile when the camera returned to him as his English translator stifled a laugh when putting the politician’s question to the committee.

A clip of Mr Flanagan speaking went viral on Twitter.

American journalist Dave Keating said: “Did an MEP participate in a European Parliament debate about the EU budget in his underwear? Lockdown lawmaking is getting very weird indeed!”

The Green Party’s Rob O’donnell added: “Luke Ming Flanagan living my nightmare getting caught out wearing just undies on a conference call or maybe he’s just that confident?” Another said: “Meanwhile, it’s No Pants Tuesday at the European Parliament.”

However, it appears the former TD was still in his gym gear.

Retweeting the video of himself, he told Wexford MEP Mick Wallace, who is known for his colourful shirts: “I’ll see your pink shirt and raise you a pair of underwear Mick.”

And replying to another tweet, he said: “Just back from a run, was in a T-shirt two minutes before. Decided to put on a shirt to look respectable!

“That worked really well. Hope you like my legs.”
