PHIL FODEN became Manchester City’s latest ‘Covidiot’ after breaking social-distancing rules to play beach football.

Foden will be reminded by City of his responsibilities and duty to observe the Government’s social-distancing guidelines after being caught on film flouting them.

City and England Under-21 star Foden, regarded as one of the brightest young talents in world football, was challenged to a game of football by members of the public at Formby beach on Sunday.

The 20-year-old joined the group for the impromptu kickabout, which was filmed, and then posed for a photo with the group, not once observing the two-metre social-distancing regulation.

City confirmed Foden will be spoken to about the incident. In the game, Foden was tackled by members of the public, one of whom was holding a bottle of beer, as they tried to take a green ball off the £30,000-a-week star.

The incident comes after his team-mate Kyle Walker (above) was fined and reprimanded for breaking lockdown rules after allowing two female escorts to visit his flat during the height of the pandemic.

City winger Leroy Sane, a target for Bayern Munich, could yet stay put, according to Oliver Kahn, former keeper and now a director at the German club.

Kahn said: “At the moment, there are completely different things to be managed.

‘‘If the market starts up at all, I’m rather sceptical. I’ve not found clubs are ready to make large transfers and it’s difficult to talk about players who have a valid contract.”
