IT’S LONELY AS A SINGLE MUM IN LOCKDOWN

-

Dear Coleen

I’m a woman aged 37 with two young children. I divorced their dad two years ago but we get on OK for the sake of the kids. It hasn’t always been easy as he cheated on me and that’s what finished our marriage.

My problem is, during lockdown I’ve realised how lonely I am without a partner. I spend all day cooking, cleaning, washing, home schooling and trying to fit in some work, but there’s no time for me.

I’ve never missed having a partner more and this situation would have been much easier if I’d had someone to face it all with.

I don’t have much confidence when it comes to dating and don’t know where I’d start, but I do know I want someone special in my life.

Coleen says

The huge positive I’ve taken from your letter is you feel ready to welcome someone into your life – that’s a big step after you’ve had your heart stamped on.

You are also doing an amazing job as a mother, keeping the show on the road in these tough times.

It’s hard for people looking for love right now because Covid-19 had changed the dating landscape – you can’t go out and socialise and hope to meet someone.

That won’t always be the case, though, so when you can, think about opportunities to meet new people and say yes to invites.

Don’t go looking for a partner, but take opportunities that come your way – even if you’re just out for a drink or dinner with friends, you’ll be building your confidence.

In the meantime, you could sign up for some dating sites – again that might build your confidence, you can see who’s out there and how it all works, and you might get the chance to connect with someone you like the look of without the pressure of a date.

And if you’re feeling lonely, reach out to friends and family.

Tell them you need support.
