Durcan on right path for return
DONEGAL goalkeeper Paul Durcan may have transferred to play football in Sligo but he still hopes to make a return to the Donegal county side.
Durcan, 36, rejoined Declan Bonner’s panel at the start of 2020 following his return from a four-year spell in Qatar and he recently transferred to North Sligo club Drumcliff/ Rosses Point.
Shaun Patton has cemented his place as Donegal’s first choice stopper but 2012 All-ireland winner Durcan told Ocean FM’S Dún na ngall podcast he is thankful for another shot at county football.
“I’m still tipping away with the boys and enjoying it. It’s a good set up there at the moment and I’m just grateful to Declan (Bonner) giving me the chance after coming home,” Durcan said.
“There is a good set up there with Andy (Mcgovern) the goalkeeping coach, it has been very good.
“To see a talent like Shaun there progressing too, it’s brilliant for the county. Hopefully he goes from strength to strength.
“He is quality. I am definitely not coaching him. Andy is doing all the coaching there. Anything I can help him with, I do talk to him but listen, if they ask me there is not a lot I could teach that man to be honest. He’s as good a keeper as I’ve ever seen. Donegal is lucky to have him in there.”
The former Ballyboden St Enda’s and Four Masters club man says he is excited about linking up with his new club mates.
“We are living in Drumcliffe/rosses Point parish. I have signed with the local club and hoping to try and get a game or two.”
