Barbers told they will miss the cut

- BY BLANAID MURPHY ENDURING A BAD HAIR LOCKDOWN

HAIRDRESSERS, barbers and nail bars will remain closed until July 20.

It had been hoped they would be included in the latest round of easing of restrictions announced yesterday.

But Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said they will remain closed until phase four of the Government’s roadmap because they are considered high risk.

He added: “Hairdressers, barbers, nail bars, personal services... I know a lot of people would like to see those services reopen but it remains that they will not reopen until phase four.

“That is for a very good reason. Everyone has been to the hairdresser and been to the barber so they know what that involves.

“It involves bring in close contact or face-to-face contact with another person for half an hour or even longer. That makes it a relatively high risk.”

MY hair and I have always had a fiery, love/hate relationship.

But now it is wrecking my head and I’m close to giving it the chop.

Yesterday, Leo Varadkar announced retail will open from Monday. But I can’t wait another day to get my hair coloured and cut.

Being born with fuzzy hair means most days are a battle with the brush. One morning it’s calm and collected, the next wild and wicked.

The tone of it is so naturally warm that it has now morphed into a tangerine colour.

Temptation is just around the corner – the chemist box dye.

I’m too scared to ruin what work my hairdresser has already done.

I’ve ordered expensive serums and treatments to quench the split ends but nothing will do the trick.

Please Leo, for the sake of my vanity, open the salons sooner.
