Horror franchise

AN Irish director is to take over the massive €155million Evil Dead horror movie franchise.

Lee Cronin has been signed up to write and direct the next instalment of the hugely successful Hollywood series.

The Dubliner was specially selected because of the success of his scary Irish flick The Hole In The Ground starring Seana Kerslake last year.

Bruce Campbell, the star of Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and The Army of Darkness, broke the news to Empire.

He said: “We’re just off the phone with Lee who is writing and directing the next Evil Dead. We’re going to get that sucker out as soon as practical.”

No release date has been set for the new film.

COMMENTING ON VIDEO YESTERDAY

A LANDLORDS’ spokesman has been blasted for boasting of how to make €5,000-a-month by squeezing two families into an old council house.

Self-styled entrepreneur Joe Doyle – who represents the Residential Landlords’ Association of Ireland – posted a video on Tiktok.

He revealed his tricks of the trade, which include replacing sitting room furniture with bunk beds, making two families share just one bathroom and charging an extra €100-a-month for a family pet.

In the clip – accompanied by emojis of faces with dollar signs for eyes and bags of gold – Mr Doyle told how he maximises profit by ripping off vulnerable people.

He said: “Here’s how you can get five grand a month from an ex-council house in Clondalkin.

“You get two families to share one house, one family pays €2,500 and the other €2,600.

“Few changes to the house – put some bunk beds into the sitting room, two sets, two sets of bunk beds into each bedroom.

“People will pay anything to get into a house, so kerching.

“You can get an extra €100 off one family because they have a dog. Two families will share one bathroom, they also have to share one kitchen, there’s only eight people in the house.

“There’s no sitting room so they’ll have to take their meals back and eat them in the bedroom. It’s a little cramped but hey, that’s not my problem, business is business.

“I wouldn’t live in the estate myself, it’s a bit of a dive, but you know what? Throw the tenants in, pack them tight and collect the money.

“Five a grand a month, on the button, every month. You can’t go wrong with that.”

Sinn Fein’s housing spokesman Eoin O Broin was disgusted with the video.

He told the Irish Mirror: “I get a lot of landlords coming to me saying that landlords get a bad run, that they get a bad rap. Well this is the kind of stuff that brings the professional landlords into disrepute.

“I don’t know if Mr Doyle has converted properties this way or not, I don’t care.

“This is not the sort of message that landlords should be sending out in the middle of a rental crisis.

“It’s not the kind of policy that somebody should be promoting and if he thinks this is a funny way of advertising, I have to say that the people of Clondalkin and the people struggling in the rental sector won’t find it funny at all.”

Mr Doyle told the Irish Mirror last night he didn’t want to take any of his comments back.

He added: “No, I’ve said it, it’s there, you know it’s a bit of a windup. I’m sorry if Eoin O Broin doesn’t find it funny.”
