the shop – they will help you and will let you know what you can and can’t touch. Each store will have some different guidelines so, if in doubt, ask staff.

■ Be very aware of the people around you – which is something you would not normally do when you’re out shopping. If you are in a store and it is getting busy then make sure you are not all rushing to the till at the same time.

■ Take a photo of anything you like but are unsure of and go back to buy it at a later date. It is going to be hard but please do not to pick up the garments.

■ There will be barriers at most of the cashiers so if you can, use contactless payment methods where possible.

■ Do not be surprised to see the staff wearing protective clothing.

■ Shop alone if at all possible. If you are shopping with children, make sure you supervise them at all times and that they follow social distancing guidelines.

■ Queue management or one-way flow systems will be in place in most shops.

■ Casual browsing will not be possible. Have an idea of what you are looking for.

■ In most cases fitting rooms will be closed to reduce the risk of transmission. You can check the store’s returns policy and perhaps buy two sizes, then try the outfits on at home.

■ Opening hours are likely to be staggered to avoid overcrowding in store and on public transport. So make sure you check online for times.

■ People who have been isolated for a long time will benefit from being able to go into a safe space and it will really raise morale, even if it’s just to buy a pair of socks.

■ Try to avoid public transport to get to there – walk or cycle if possible.

■ Most importantly, do not go out shopping if you don’t feel well or have any symptoms of coronavirus.
