THE SPECIAL WERN

German star Timo to lead Lampard’s title assault as big-spending Blues set sights on Leverkusen’s Havertz

has only two years left on his contract, opening the door for Chelsea.

The 21-year-old set tongues wagging yesterday when he liked a tweet in response to the signing of Werner that said simply: “Announce Havertz.”

It was the first tweet the Germany star, rated at £90m by Leverkusen, has liked in seven days.

Bayern think Havertz is overpriced and have decided to focus on Manchester City’s Leroy Sane this summer. And while Real believe he wants to join them, they need to shift a host of players first to fund the deal and make space in their squad.

Manchester United are also in the running for Havertz but they are favourites to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund instead.

FRANK LAMPARD will have an embarrassment of riches at his command next season if Roman Abramovich has his way.

Chelsea’s billionaire owner has rarely been seen at Stamford Bridge amid mounting speculation he could be prepared to sell up.

But after waiting out a transfer embargo, the Russian oligarch is ready to bankroll a big push to take the Blues back to the top.

With Timo Werner set to join the club next month subject to a medical and Hakim Ziyech on his way from Ajax, more than £80million has already been spent. Chelsea are also chasing Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz, 21, and jumped to the front of the queue to sign him yesterday.

Leverkusen value the attacking midfielder at £90m and while Chelsea want a significant discount on that, they are determined to land their targets.

Lampard and director of football Petr Cech launched a charm offensive to help beat Liverpool to Werner.

And they are prepared to do the same with the Leverkusen youngster, who hinted at his intentions by liking a tweet which asked

Chelsea

Havertz”.

Leicester’s Ben Chilwell is on their wishlist too as Lampard (below) ramps up plans to revamp his squad for next season.

Werner has 32 goals and 13 assists this season and can play in a variety of positions. Ziyech managed eight goals and 21 assists for

Ajax, while Havertz has 12 goals and six assists in 28 league games.

Chelsea can already call on 13-goal England striker Tammy Abraham and rising

to

“Announce stars Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-odoi.

Even if they lose veterans Willian and Pedro, out of contract this summer, it would be a forward line to make most Premier League teams envious.

The jewel in the crown though is Germany forward Werner, who seemed set to move to Anfield before Chelsea muscled in.

He joins next month having told Leipzig he did not want to play for them in the Champions League quarter-finals in August.

Agreeing a five-year deal worth £170,000 a week, he said: “I’m delighted to be signing for Chelsea.

“It is a proud moment for me. Together we have a successful future ahead.”

Chelsea are expected to fund their summer spend with a big clear-out, and will bank £48.5m this month from the sale of Alvaro Morata to Atletico Madrid.

Michy Batshuayi, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Marcos Alonso, Emerson Palmieri, and Davide Zappacosta could leave while Chelsea will listen to offers for one of their centre-backs, with Kurt Zouma the most likely to go.
