QWe have a well ventilated en-suite shower. The extractor fan is right outside the shower enclosure and we always open the window after showering. However, the ceiling paint in the shower enclosure has started to peel off. Is there a better paint that I can use?

If it’s chalky, you need to apply a stabilising solution. However, since it’s a bathroom and gets a lot of condensation, I recommend a high quality paint like Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3. Q
We have a damaged curved plastic bath panel split at the top and it is getting worse. The bath and panel are now obsolete products. Can you suggest a way to remedy the damage or an alternative? Jane Groucutt, by email
I would get 9mm MDF and build a frame around the bath. Cut the MDF to size then use a mini roller to apply one coat of water-resistant primer paint, then apply two undercoats. Bend the MDF around the bath frame using wood screws placed in screw cups to allow you to remove the panel for access. Then apply a topcoat of your choice (satinwood, eggshell or gloss).
AWhen renewing the line in strimmers, spray with WD40 or dry lube as it helps to prevent the line from sticking.

If it’s a scorch burn, you can rub it with 0000 grade steel wool and methyl alcohol. Getting a colour match is hard – you will need to find a stain, paint or burnishing paste (T-cut). Q
We have a tarnished copper canopy over a bar. Is there anything to bring it back to life? Steve King, by email

If you want to keep copper shiny do it from the start. If it is used in a roof/canopy, once it has turned green it is a massive job to restore it.
