Nahaarr chance no joking matter

-

HAVE the last laugh with

NAHAARR (12.40) in the Silver Wokingham.

The final day of the strangest Royal Ascot there’s been is a mixture of two-year-old contests, tricky Group 1s and big-field sprints, with the longest race of the week thrown in.

The Wokingham has been a fixture at this meeting for many years but I’m more interested in the consolation race for horses that missed the cut in the historic six-furlong handicap.

Nahaarr only made his debut little more than a year ago and he created an immediate impact by winning his first four starts.

The step up to seven furlongs did not stop his progress but he’s twice been beaten since stepping up in class. That had more to do with the way those races were run than his lack of ability but I’m certain trainer William Haggas (left) is doing the right thing dropping Nahaarr back to six furlongs.

The way he races says to me that he’s a sprinter and a high draw is another positive. Have 2pts each-way at 16-1.

The Diamond Jubilee Stakes might not be as deep as it has been in recent years so it could pay to chance SANDS

OF MALI (3.35) with the easy ground in his favour.

He struggled in four starts last season having been injured in Dubai early in the year. If you go back to his 2018 form he would have to have a fine chance.

He was touched off in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and returned to this track to beat top-class Harry Angel in the Group 1 British Champions Sprint in the autumn.

Have 1pt each-way at

20-1.
