Hulk star’s Greens support a real Marvel

- BY AILBHE DALY

HOLLYWOOD star Mark Ruffalo has backed the Greens as plans for a new government go into the endgame.

The Marvel Avengers actor went green for a non-hulk related reason as he joined up with party chiefs Eamon Ryan and Catherine Martin last night to discuss the planned ban of fracked gas importation.

If the Programme for Government passes, Ireland will withdraw the Shannon LNG terminal from the EU Projects of Common Interest List, which would mean fracked US gas would no longer be brought into the country.

Ruffalo said: “I have been advocating for 10 years with Americans who have been poisoned by fracking, many who live in the areas that would supply Ireland with fracked gas.

“I’m thankful that US anti-fracking activists contacted Green Party leaders to support the

Programme for

Government and that I can lend my support in this critical moment.

“The result of this decision will impact the health and human rights of many Americans for decades to come.”

Ruffalo has been actively advocating to stop the US import terminal in the Shannon Estuary that would export fracked gas from Northeast Pennsylvania.

While the vote on the PFG is not being counted until Friday, it is a postal vote so the last votes are expected to be cast tomorrow to allow delivery to party headquarters.

Some 2,000 members of the party are expected to participate in the internal ballot with a two-thirds majority required if the Greens enter the coalition.
