Monthly high as 135 wait on hospital beds
Warmer weather on way before end of the week

THE number of people waiting for beds in Irish hospitals has spiked with the highest total recorded this month.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation said there were 135 people affected yesterday.
Of that figure, 115 were in the emergency department while 20 were in wards elsewhere in the hospital.
Worst-hit was University Hospital Limerick with 28 patients waiting.
Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar was also badly affected with 16 people experiencing delays, while Cork University Hospital had 12.
The highest number in the capital was St Vincent’s University Hospital which had 10 patients waiting.
Croia
Connacht and west Ulster were hit by heavy downpours yesterday while other areas were overcast but temperatures remained warm with highs of 16C to 19C.
And Met Eireann revealed we will see some sunshine before the week is out.
Today, the humid conditions will continue with further spells of rain in most areas.
A forecaster said: “Northwestern parts may see some drier and brighter spells.
“The rain is likely to be very patchy in the south-east. Highest temperatures of 15C to 17C with light to moderate southerly breezes.” Meanwhile, tomorrow will see a lot of dry weather and temperatures will begin to climb with highs of 17C to 21C.
Thursday looks set to be a scorcher with highs of 18C to 25C. Leinster will enjoy the best conditions with light breezes. The forecaster added: “Thursday will be warmer with sunny spells.
“It will be mainly dry but a few isolated heavy showers are possible late in the day.”
And Met Eireann cautioned there is a risk of heavy or thundery showers on Thursday night and Friday as “warm muggy” conditions continue.
