COLEMAN: CARLO’S A TOP BOSS

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

SEAMUS COLEMAN has revealed that Everton’s players are under no illusions they are fighting for their futures under “world class manager” Carlo Ancelotti.

The veteran defender spoke after an encouraging draw with Liverpool in the Mersey derby, where the Blues created two fine chances to record their first victory over the old enemy in a decade.

Those positives signs though, are not enough for the straight-talking Donegal man. He knows that under the demanding Ancelotti, only those with a ruthless mindset will be retained at Goodison, and to survive under the Italian (left) in the long-term, they must develop a relentless cultures.

“We have to realise at this club, we have a world class manager and as players we are fighting for our futures,” Coleman said, pulling no punches.

“He is new to the job and I am sure he will want to be putting his stamp on things. So we need to build a culture, demanding from each other in training.

“I want this club to be successful, we all need to be pushing in the right direction and giving everything we have to be part of this team going forward.”

To do that, Coleman says, the Everton players must now produce on a far more consistent basis, as they build on the good moments they created against Liverpool.

They had chances to finally end such a long run without winning against their derby rivals, which stretches back to 2010 over 22 painful matches.

Yet the defender believes there must be more to come, as they look to improve under the obvious quality of Ancelotti as manager.

“The performance was better but the players and fans are still craving that win against Liverpool,” Coleman told Everton’s website.

“I am sure if we can keep that mindset for a longer period of time, not just in little phases [it will come soon].

“Competing with the division’s strongest teams can’t be something that just happens in periods. We have to develop that and deal with it.”
