New skills are cycle of life for chef Janice, 37
MANY bus and train passengers ignored mandatory rules to wear face masks yesterday.
Bosses have flooded social media with new requirement while on board trains and buses there are clear signs saying coverings are compulsory.
One Irish Rail passenger tweeted: “How come I’m the only one in a carriage with 10 people wearing one?” Another labelled the rule “pointless” due to the lack of adherence.
An Irish Rail spokesperson said: “Enforcement measures will be confirmed based on legislation.
“We will initially be ensuring awareness of these measures and ask all customers to wear face coverings.”
Bus Eireann faced similar complaints from customers. One tweeted: “I’m on 100x and only 4 passengers wearing masks. Feeling uncomfortable.”
A Bus Eireann spokesperson said: “Drivers are required to wear a face mask or face visor when passengers are boarding or alighting or when social distancing may not be possible.
“Wearing a face mask is a matter of personal responsibility.”
A CHEF used lockdown to learn how to ride a bike aged 37 despite teaching her kids how to cycle.
Janice Casey Bracken was fed up being saddled at home while friends and family went off together so decided to use her free time wisely.
The chef at Dunbrody House Hotel in Wexford and head tutor at the ICA’S cookery school in An Grianan, Termonfeckin, Co Louth, said: “I was a wild child so I think my parents thought it would be too dangerous if I went on a bike.
“We used to go on our holidays to the Aran Islands when I was little and I’d sit on the crossbars of my dad’s bike.

Hannah is now 14 and Cormac is 10 but Santy bought them bikes and I went out with them to teach them how to cycle. They hadn’t a clue that I didn’t know myself.
“Lockdown happened and I had time on my hands.
“I wanted to cycle before I hit 40 which also spurred me into it.
“So about five weeks ago, I went outside with my son and tried. My neighbours thought it was so funny, seeing me crash into wheelie bins.
“Cormac cycled alongside me and encouraged me, telling me now to look down but to look ahead.
“Eventually I cycled 10m before falling and after it all came together I cycled down to my sister Sandra’s house in the same estate.
“She had the camera and all the neighbours out.
“I’m cycling the blue way. I’m getting there. I’m using my sister’s bike at the minute so a new one is on my Christmas list.”
