Using the army very good idea

THERE are few who would question the use of Defence Force personnel conveying an HSE chief executive from his home in Leitrim to his work in Dublin.

Not only was this an effective use of manpower, it also resulted in considerable savings for the State as the vehicles involved came free of charge from BMW.

It would have been remiss of the Government not to use the Defence Forces during what was, and still is, a national emergency.

Indeed the case for using the expertise of army personnel to help the emergency services on a regular basis should be examined.
