Garda rejects ‘unfair’ claims
A SENIOR garda who oversaw part of the investigation into the murder of his colleague Adrian Donohoe has rejected suggestions officers “squandered” leads and failed to follow up on lines of inquiry.
Retired former detective inspector Pat Marry denied gardai had “tunnel vision” and described the suggestions as “unfair”.
Aaron Brady, 28, from New Road, Crossmaglen, Co Armagh, denies the murder of Mr Donohoe on January 25, 2013 at Lordship Credit
Union, Bellurgan, Co Louth, and a charge of robbing approximately €7,000 in cash and cheques.
Senior counsel for the defence, Michael O’higgins, asked Mr Marry whether his client could have been laundering diesel on the evening Det Garda Donohoe was shot dead.
He said: “This was approached with tunnel vision and very obvious matters which required to be followed up were
Aaron Brady not.” Mr Marry replied: “I totally disagree with that. It is an unfair comment. I was involved in a capital murder not a revenue offence.”
The former garda explained that the murder investigation took precedence over fuel laundering.
He added that the investigating team didn’t believe fuel laundering was taking place in the yard on Concession Road on the night of
the fatal shooting.
