TODAY FM impersonator Mario Rosenstock is the latest Irish celebrity to fall victim to an online scam, it has emerged.

Fraudsters have cloned his professional Facebook page and are inviting fans to take part in a “free draw”.

The administrator offers to pick 50 followers at random, claiming they will each be awarded €1,000 in prize money.

However, each follower is then asked for bank details so prize money can be transferred and that is when the hacker clears their savings out.

Mario was contacted by a number of fans and has warned followers of his genuine account not to give their bank details to anyone.

He said: “The Covid-19 crisis seems to have brought out all the scammers.”

Irish celebrities who have been subject to online fraudsters and fake adverts include Miriam O’callaghan, Lucy Kennedy and Shane Filan.

Facebook said it is taking measures, including responding “to valid legal requests by law enforcement and regulators” pursuing such cases.

A spokesperson added: “We are also considering taking further legal action in certain instances against those responsible for violating our rules.”
