NUNO TO KEEP IT CLEAN

- BY JAMES NURSEY

NUNO ESPIRITO SANTO is backing his in-form defence to shut out Arsenal hot-shot Pierre-emerick Aubameyang.

Wolves have won all three of their Premier League games since the restart and have yet to concede a goal. They will put that 100 per cent record on the line today against an Arsenal side back on song after three successive wins.

Aubameyang netted twice in the 4-0 romp over Norwich in midweek to become joint-leading scorer in the top flight. But the Wolves defence is looking superb following seven clean sheets in their last eight League games and manager Nuno, a former goalkeeper, said: “If you don’t concede you always have a chance, even if you are not as good as your opponent.

“Clean sheets are of course really important to what we do.

“We are doing things well but it is a team effort. We start defending from the first player high up the pitch. But I think it is something that all managers look at – not just me because of my past as a goalkeeper.”

At the heart of it all has been skipper Conor Coady, who has been nominated for the Premier League player of the month award alongside team-mate Raul Jimenez.

The former midfielder turned defender has now made 105 consecutive league appearances. Nuno (top) added: “There are not many players who in three seasons have played as many games as he has at such a high level and standard.”
