Soul worth the weight

- BY PETER O’HEHIR

HIGHLY-TRIED Soul Search might take full advantage of the 16lb she receives from Speak In Colours in the Group 3 Rybo Ballycorus Stakes at Fairyhouse tomorrow.

Unplaced in the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas on her penultimate start, the Ger Lyons-trained filly belatedly opened her account in a recent Naas maiden.

But it’s her two-year-old form which catches the eye – a two lengths fourth to Qipco 1,000 Guineas winner and Investec Oaks favourite Love in the Moyglare and a close third to Coronation Stakes heroine and French Oaks fancy Alpine Star in the Debutante.

Only time will tell whether she has made the necessary improvement from two to three. But seven furlongs looks her ideal trip and, receiving chunks of weight from some tough and battlehardened older rivals, she must have a big chance, with Conor Hoban in the saddle.
