PAUL Mescal is up for his first gong as Normal People bagged three nominations in the TV Choice Awards.

One of the year’s most talked about shows and the most-watched programme in BBC Three’s history, the adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel is shortlisted for Best New Drama.

And Paul, from Co Kildare, and his co-star Daisy Edgar-jones are up against some of the top stars on the small screen for the Best Actress and Best Actor slots. With a record number of votes cast this year, the shortlist for the 2020 awards was unveiled today.

New programmes Beat The Chasers, Race Across The World and The Martin Lewis Money Show have all made it onto the list for the first time.

Sas/celebrity SAS Who Dares Wins and Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad are the other newbies in the mix. Gangs Of London, Gentleman Jack and White House Farm will go up against Normal People for Best New Drama.

Peaky Blinders will battle Killing Eve, Our Girl and Netflix’s smash hit Sex Education for Best Drama Series. There’s a clean sweep for ITV with all four

nominations in the

Best Daytime Show category. Good Morning Britain’s Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid will be out to steal Holly and Phil’s This Morning trophy.

Loose Women and The Chasers will also be in the hunt for the gong.

In the food category, James Martin’s Saturday Morning, Saturday Kitchen and Sunday Brunch are all competing against last year’s winners Gordon, Gino & Fred’s American Road Trip.

As ever it’s been a strong season when it comes to the soap storylines so it will be a tough battle again between them to secure the top spots with viewers.

A new style of presentation for this year will allow fans to join in the excitement of seeing the winners presented with their awards for the first time in September.

If you want to see your favourite show pick up a gong, you have until midnight on Friday, July 17, to cast your vote at www.tvchoicemagazine.co.uk.
